Mesh farm is generative design algorithm which builds a mesh on the vertices mimicking a behavior of biological cells. They split, grow, have children inheritance properties, and remember their parents. The sketch is built upon iGeo library for Processing. The growth of the mesh is determined by the genetic information of a cell, such as how large can it grow, how much offspring does one cell bring and the age of the cell. Genetic image produces the outcome of the mesh.

MESH FARM

Architectural project with plans, section, and elections started in the baroque epoch in western Europe. Prior to it the Architect was a master builder keeping the model of an edifice in mind. Today virtual and augmented reality help to shrink the path from building information modeling to a construction site. This project has been developed as a prototype in one week. The app recognizes the part worker picked up and shows the location of the part of a holographic structure.

HOLOCON

The goal of our research team was to investigate nonlinear design process, which is informed by material behavior. In the investigation stage we set out to fabricate a corner to see the behavior of continuous material on interrupted surface. The thread adopted to corner accumulating material in a distinct pattern which revealed a tectonics of fabrication method. This tectonic was then adopted as formal panoply and the basis for a design stage.

REFLAXING

This is a fabrication research project. Our team set the goal to develop a system which can evaluate current conditions and take unique action. We set a wax cube on a turntable and melted it with heat blower attached to a robot arm. Each cycle Kinect sensor was scanning the wax cube and sent point cloud to evaluate current state and the next action. Such open-ended platform raised problems of intelligent fabrication, setting the goal and giving a freedom of arriving at the result.

VOIDING

The technology is deemed successful when society know what it is and can synthesize a concept of it to understand and trust it. The concept of voxel would be impossible without pixel which derived from picture element of two dimensional lamp matrix. So voxel robot is a robot consists of a cluster of elements freely coupled to change a shape. Such material medium poses considerable interest to material design and fabrication.

DYNAMIC MATERIAL CULTURE

Design is a bastard child of evolution. Hence Intelligent Design is a divine way of giving an evolution a purpose or make sense of generative iteration. Every generation is a pinup, every new offspring is a new iteration. Design process is locked in an eternal circle of variation, selection, heredity. Through the similarity between the two, it is clear that Designing is synonymous with Evolving. With the only difference that design favors certain qualities of the process, selfishly selected by the agency of an author.

DESIGENCE

A discipline is an entry gate into an occupation of particular complexity. It introduces a conceptual framework to a disciple who adopts a knowledge field as ones primary environment of cultural participation. An entropy of such field might seem disruptive, but it is only natural that the social processes follow the inevitable motion of cultural life. Instead of static edifice it is more advantageous to look at a discipline as a slow dance, which has a trajectory but not a final destination.

DISCIPLINARY ENTROPY

How to experience art? Work of art aims to radiate meaning and establish aesthetic experience between an object and spectator. Whereas authors might have an intent and a narrative, they can't cover every possible meaning of an object they created. Spectators are free to interpret an object and find meaning closest to them. Facilitating such liberty of aesthetic experience, art is getting saturated with multiple readings, engaging spectator in the process of figuration.

OBLIQUE FIGURATION

The profession is a journey with shifting destination. While working we project our professional agency changing the world at the power of our mastery. We cut and stitch, soil and dry, spoil and fix, hide and disclose, speak and listen, draw and erase, hold and release to shape material world in a form of an object or event. I work on a form and a medium, and look inward and outward to see if a form has a sense to it's environment and which response it will receive.
